stuff and things

Comments (4)

hi everyone. I’m glad you all liked my self portrait tuesday headache dresses. I can’t believe the crazy things i wore. And just so you know the last picture i did as an 11 x 14, matted, framed and gave to my mother for mother’s day back in the 90’s.

so first off amieeroo tagged me with this little meme here:
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your blog along with these instructions.
5. Don’t search around and look for the “coolest” book you can find. Do what’s actually next to you.

well your in luck. the nearest book to me was right infront of me on my desk. It’s a design book, sorry to disappoint. So there isn’t any sentance so i took a picture of page 123. The book is about the evolution of a music magazine from the 90’s called RayGun. David Carson was an editor/designer for quite sometime. This book chronicles the rise and fall of the magazine and some other crap david carson was up to. if you care anythng about type you will know that david carson became quite popular for his unreadable type treatments and cropped and chopped layouts. here’s page 123:

and the cover:

i’m not going to tag you but if you feel like doing it i’d love to see what book is near you!

here’s some other stuff:
did you go look at Rebecca’s blog and shop? if you didn’t go look she has bags with MUSTACHES! MUSTACHES PEOPLE! sorry to raise my typing voice but you see that is just too cool. so anyways here’s the mary janes i am making her

they will be pink and brown and a twin set. i’ll explain that later more when they are done.

next up i got this faboulous card from Lisa she used her doggie, Skippy, and her Cat, Neo on the chinese/lunar year card!

and finally i want to say thank you to Lesa for these little treats she gave me last nite. she was just out shopping and thought of a few of us. so sweet of her! (also go look at her kitty bedson her site)

a measuring tape and some lint attracting sheets you can stuff in yer purse and a little orange drawstring bag! THANK YOU! I think i am all caught up now!
show me some page 123’s that’s nearest to you!

this is it. the moment you’ve all been waiting for. the debut of not one but three headache dresses. Babydoll dresses were big in the very early 90’s. Here i am circa
1990 playing in the photography room with my best friend joe. we used to bring a tape player int ehre and listen to the smiths and new order and run around snapping pictures

headache dress number 3: black and white daisies

not very headache inducing yet? what is that you want more? ok here i am circa 1991

headache dress number 2: polka dots (what’s the deal with that fan anyhow?)

the winner of all headache dresses will give you VIETNAM FLASHBACKS

a few things for your monday pleasure

1. go wish erin a happy birthday!!

2. i found the best little online shop ever. you simply must go check out rebecca’s online shop/blog and tell her piddleloop sent you. i simply must have this
and one of these i mean COME ON A MUSTACHE ON A TOTE OR CLUTCH PEOPLE! this is serious business.

3.  i forgot to show y’all my favorite gift i received in the white elephant xmas. can you guess who it is at age 10?

4. i took pictures of erin’s beautiful Lady E wrap! it is so nice!

5. this DIY felted flower kit totally rules..also kelley is really really nice i emailed her to ask if she had “baby shit yellow” because i like a muted bland color pallette and she totally delivered. check it out

6. i thought i’d try spinning and give it a whirl and ordered this spin kit from hello yarn, now i am afraid to even touch it. it’s just so pretty.

7. look at the project pouch wendy made for me during my birthday week! ( we had a slight delay with a serger being broken, but we are back in business)

Ahead: Dogs…Cupcakes…Presents..good friends!

Comments (8)

Today while zander and i ate a delish luch of perogi’s i noticed the animals begging and working hard to look extra cute. Lucy never puts up her ears because it looks like it takes a lot of effort.. so out somes the camera!
i’m holding my massive ears up look how cute i am GIMMIE PEROGI!

samuel the beagle works the concecntraion angle

we taught lucy how to roll over for a treat action shot!

samuel always sits funny like this

what do you have in my face? get that thing out of my face

ok so now y’all are sick of the dogs. what else is on the list…oh right firends and cupcakes! Lesa brought cupcakes to our little meeting last nite to celebrate mine and erin’s birthday’s. so here’s some friends eating cupcake shots (self portrait courtsey of erin) note i’m basically smashing my face into the cupcake

lesa looking at ann who was playing with my camera

and ann posing with GIGANTOR KAT

speaking of GIGANTOR KAT ann crocheted him from the japanese craft book she used worsted weight and he came out huge and cute some shots of him

he even has his own carrying case

i got some awsome birthday loot from ann (note the squirrel holding the book mark)

so there’s all of the birthday mayhem make sure you go wish erin a happy birthday on or before january 24th. also be sure to cheer her on for the knitting olympics. zander and i plant on making signs to cheer her on. i leave with two more pictures to round out my massive picture post (sorry but it’s more fun with pictures) a pair of mary janes for a friend’s b-day and some new knitting stitch markers to be added to the shop

**also i am so glad all of you enjoyed our wilson phillips picture because well if YOU HOOOOOOLD ON FOR ONE MORE DAY…. i’ve been whisked away with the large cane exit stage left

Self Portrait Tuesday

Comments (11)

ok i’ve dug them up and out of the box they have emerged. In high school my 35mm camera was my third arm. I belonged to the photo club too. total photo nerd.
My friends and i used to do so well in photo class we’d finish assignments and get to go play in the studio for hours. this would result in tons of weird photographs.
such as my two friends yelling LET"S DO THE WILSON PHILLIPS! volia! circa 1989

circa 1988 me at the Dunes

next week a series of photographs depicting my atrocius wardrobe on the very and i mean VERY early 90’s. stay tuned next week for the HEADACHE DRESS!

that hockey jerseys only look good on those big beer guzzling d000ds you see at the games. or on hockey players with all their big padding.

some stuff and things now editited for your pleasure

Comments (5)

1. i taped project runway last nite and refuse to look at the messageboards i frequent until i watch it.  I still think santino needs to go, even nick pointed out he uses a thousand trims and makes everything the same. The judges pointed out he’s too much of an over achiever. anyways i have this to say GO EMMETT!

2. The Flyers beat the blackhawks last nite 5 to 2.

3. i also am happy invasion is back on again, life is good. (also taped)  i couldn’t help but watch this instead of saving it to watch with nat. this show is going in a really scarey direction with all the follower/leader/weird religious cues kind of stuff. Makes it scarey and somewhat intellectual for a tv show.

4. i am going to start a perfect pie knit along (the cat was let out of the bag by Erin)

5. i wish the trend in clothing would be exactly what resse witherspoon wore in the movie walk the line so then i could then die happy.

6. i want to do a lady elenor and join this knit along over at Jillian’s and i completly forgot i could have sheeps HOLD the yarn. and i can go buy like one ball at a time. BUT i will not do it. i must do it later when i have proper fundage and stuff.  This will not be easy since i am going to valpo ( and sheep’s is open til 9pm) tonight to meet with Lesa click on it and look at her pretty pretty fair isle cardigan

7. i took a picture of nat and i in opposing teams jersey’s last nite to further prove the fact that hockey jersey’s only look good on fat guys, but nat didn’t have his camera cord.

8. i dug up a whole crap load of my past last nite looking for self portrait tuesday’s theme for this month. i will scan some tonight for that installment, late again. i simply forgot it was well TUESDAY. memories of highschool just came flooding back last nite.

9. why can’t i just find a wardrobe like reese withspoon as june carter in the movie walk the line say just laying around in the alley behind nat’s apt?

10. because all that lives in the alley are the rats, i bet they are really well dressed rats.

i got an early b-day present from Erin last week. I’m sorry i’ve been sick and feeling like total crap since last monday anyhow. but here’s what i got.

it’s THE HEAD! or a wigform! we were talking about how great it would be to have one to block hats with one day and voila erin delivers! she also gave me some nice vintage buttons and some snoopy stickers. the best part and i tried to photograph it but it didn’t work out so well is the card. Jess helped pick out the card, it has braille on it! it was simpky the coolest card i have received! i’ve showed it to everyone and it sits on my desk where i can look at it everyday.
what thoughtful gifts! now what could i get erin for her birthday? hmm.

i also talked to an inturd net only friend and he wanted to unload his copy of oldboy. for a mere five dollars look what i got! oh yes. now i can watch my favorite movie over and over and when hollywood gets their hands on it and ruins it i can watch the O. G. version in happiness. *sigh*

tomorrow i’m going to see the phillies take on the blackhawks. i even fished my old BH jersey out for fun. Nat might wear his phillies warm up jersey. should be fun.

learn some new things

Comments (3)

ok ok to clarify shawn’s point, i had HEARD of broken social scene, BUT i went to INTONATION in july and saw them LIVE and really really enjoyed them enough to buy several more of their albums.

I can tall you a great little story about shawn. He lives in Canada and is a very cute boy, i used to date him for three years. He is a record boy. He has alot of records and he likes to collect them. He DOESN’T like it when you sit really close to them, OR start flipping thru them OR sneeze near them OR start TOUCHING them. I used to do all this stuff on purpose just to annoy the crap out of him. good fun. so if you have yourself one of THOSE weirdo record boys you now have hours of fun to annoy them.

also another film i totally loved was a very long engagement but even tho i SWEAR that was at the beginning of last year nat thinks it was from the year prior?

14. Favorite brand of clothing? ??? i don’t own labels i’m poor
15. Where would you like to retire to? rome
16. Favorite time of the day? late nite
17. What was your most memorable birthday? 22…. i now turn 22 annually for the past 11 years
18. Where were you born? Chicago IL
19. Favorite sport to watch? men’s tennis i like to look at good calves
20. What fabric detergent do you use? tide
21. Coke or Pepsi? COKE WITH LIME I HEART YOU
22. Are you a morning person or a night owl? owl
23. What is your shoe size? 8.5 narrow
24. Do you have any pets? lucy the basset, samuel the beagle
25. What did you want to be when you were little? a vet and a lawyer
26. When is your birthday? January 16 i will be 22

now you have learned i am a cardigan queen, how to annoy your boyfriend if he collects records, and that i’m turning 22 for the 11th time soon, what are you going to get me for my birthday?

who loves some cute things?

Comments (4)

go to Rachel’s little store and pick up some goodies like i did

i am most impressed with little details like the fact that she put my name on the tag of the snowflake cards, it made me feel special. it made me feel extra special she actually spelled my last name right. GO RACHEL!

here are some other cute things thanks to Jillian i found some of these, mostly because they are so effing cute

which i didn’t know i could ACTUALLY use on this little item i am knitting up

and there’s one more cute thing, lucy the basset is pretty long. she’s four feet of diva. we got her an official bed and tossed the blankie she was sleeping on. she curls up pretty tight

i call her a diva because she’s pretty girlie. She sits all girlie, she quite prissy about getting wet and the cold. But she is in actuality this big, smelly, dog. She gets atomic gas (tm) and her ears are crunchy minutes after she takes a bath.
i didn’t get a shot of samuel (beagle) she pretty much doesn’t play well with others and is the world’s most anti-social dog.

our exchange

Comments (4)

nat and i exchanged gifts this year before we flew out. Nat is always very very good at getting me exactly what i want. He is a very very good boyfriend. He on the other hand is always the hardest to buy form because he never wants anything. Soooo i got him arrested developement season 1 & 2 and a threadless shirt he was wearing in the oscar picture, a starbucks card, and various monkey gifts such as bowling for monkeys.
i need to get some pictures of that. Perhaps next weekend i will make him bowl for monkeys. He gave me these and i love them all:

yes my very own ONE EYE direct from marianne! a copy of the Jay Ryan book, and a kate spade bag. All put to good use.
now i am finishing up some last minute christmas/b-day knitting for my pal amy and tonight i think i get see some of my knitting pals. *whew* i’m tired of posting.

christmas take two or three

Comments (5)

Nat’s parent’s live outside of Philly, in New Jersey. Yes i’ve got myself a Jersey boy.
So nat and i flew out xmas eve and stayed until the 29th. I want to thank his parents (if they read this - there’s a possibility) for being again so wonderful during our stay. This is the third year i was able to come out and they are always so giving. I again didn’t take too many pictures of people opening stuff, but when Nat’s mom opened the HELLO KITTY TOASTER she asked who wants toast!? and i started yelling I DO! I DO! PLUG IT IN! PLUG IT IN! Nat and i ate Hello Kitty Toast all week.

next was BREAKFAST! which consisted of pumpkin pie, and cookies his mom had made xmas eve. we also ate these cookies and pie pretty much everyday til it was gone for either breakfast or lunch. mmmmmm

nat’s mom and sister are really into j-pop or japanese pop and culture, stuff and things. They had a special tree of their own. A pink tree trimmed with pictures of j-pop singers.

so i knit for each of them a pair of mary janes slippers in Noro (japanese yarn)
here they are finished

we went to nat’s grandmother’s for xmas where they do a “white elephant” exchange which i think is the MOST FUN. you can get anything from a cork signed by each person’s who has received it since 1972 or a lint brush or magic towel. The highlights of the evening was nat’s mom opening a large box, the outside had a juicer on it and everyone was like what is inside, cause IT’S NEVER EVER WHAT’S ON THE BOX…well it really was a juicer and what’s funny is it took 5 people to say OH IT *IS* REALLY A JUICER! and all i could do was laugh. We then went to nat’s aunt’s house where we ate again for the fifth time that day a full blown turkey dinner. Thank god we went to NYC a few days after so i could walk off those turkey dinners and ONE BILLION COOKIES i ate
every year i make us take our picture here if you look back i am sure you have seen them

a flurry of gifts

Comments (2)

I exchanged gifts and had christmas with my parents and nephew and sister on new year’s eve this year. i didn’t take many photos, but when you have a soon to be three year old everything happens really fast anyhow. Zander was really INTO christmas this year.
all i have of Zee are action shots since he was into opening EVERYONE’s presents

zander got his uncle nat some oscar slippers and a oscar hat (nat’s favorite sesame character if you couldn’t tell)

my parents gave me a fancy new camera this thing does cool stuff like auto bracketing and has a motor drive like thing built into it. It also has some handy internal memory. Sandly tho it is not an SLR. I only wanted an SLR that shoots in raw and you can’t get one under 2k right now. That wll be my next step in a few years

the most important thing i asked for was new scissors. Most importantly Gingher scissors. These are super sharp and slightly expensive scissors. It seems all my scissors i use for my embroidery, felt, and knitting don’t actually CUT. So now i will never need another pair of scissors again. THANKS MOM!

my sister left my present at her house, but i did get a handmade frame with pictures of zander and i and some lime green and orange pot holders!
my sister did give me my birthday present early tho how about these!

the top book is knitting for dogs, so i can knit lucy (the basset) her winter coat.
the rest of the books i always longingly looked at for months without money. THANKS WENDY!
i showed wendy the books i bought in NYC for her and i to look at some japanese crafting books

so that was my new year’s eve slash christmas with the family

Self Portrait Tuesday

Comments (0)

Yes i know it’s monday and this is NOT for tomorrow…instead it is for LAST tuesday. Because i was in NYC and philly for xmas i took my picture and wanted to squeeze it in, but due to being at Nat’s i couldn’t. His card reader just HATES my camera cards. So anyways nearly SEVEN days LATE i bring you my last installment of self portrait tuesday’s reflection series. These are both taken in New York City’s Bryant Park’s AIDS instillation.
