wip friday

Comments (4)

I haven’t much time to sew this week. I did knit up past the second wedge on my perfect pie shawl. I did have about an hour to sew tonight. I cranked out a few more mini wallets. I know you’re sick of seeing them but here it is. I also am putting a few in the shop you can buy your own here.

I hope you have a good weekend.

The skirts are done!

Comments (10)

oh yes the skirts are done.
Time it took: about 6 hrs total from cutting to hemming over 2 days
things learned: i can actually “stitch in the ditch” pretty ok, this ingenoious waistband, how to get the pattern to line up how i wanted thru cutting, and measuring on the arrow thingie on the pattern. I only had help with that last part from my fabulous sewing superstar mom. I love them and can’t wait to wear them this weekend.

i want to thank erin and jessica for hanging out with zander and i yesterday it was indeed fun walking the trails! If you check her blog there’s a picture of the kids hanging out in “texiloy”. And lookie what erin made for me. the more i wear it, the more i admire it. so pretty and so simple! thank you again erin

keeping cool

Comments (5)

since the temps in and outside of chicage have been at about 98 and heat indexes have been steady at 105+ it’s easier to stay cool. here;s some ways i’ve been staying cool.

1. POOL PARTY! we had a pool party with erin, nate, and jessica because nat and i can’t go to her party at the end of july. My dad cooked some walleye and perch that was swimming in june. We ate and had a good time in the pool.

Zander and his daddy are having a squirtgun/waterblaster fight with nat.

Jessica is determined to learn how to kick around on her own

she succeeded with the kickboard and moved on to noodles!

my sister is throwing Zander around

2. spend 1.5 hours cutting and pinning pieces for two skirts.

3. surfing the internet i always look at maize’s blog..i’d never entered her tuesday giveaways. Last tuesday i was up til 3am doing a freelance project i was having troubles with. Look i won disco rings. ooooh glittery.

also Caitlyn has told me she got my package and will be posting it very soon.

baglady

Comments (5)

my friends know this about me. I simply cannot resist a bag. Handbag or tote bag, neither can be resisted. My sister is the same way with purses. My joke with the store to friend of P is “you can pay me in bags” and even tho i am kidding..i really am not. heh. just call me baglady.

ANYWAYS...*ahem*.....i’ve got some thank you’s because these people know how to get a girl right at her heart. First up. Wendy! no...not my sister..."that wendy” erin and i call her. You see i asked wendy if she’d give me some cards to put in with orders. What does she do? She made this super cool triangular wristlet! with matching business card holder...soap...earrings...a cd...and a little game for zander. Man people are so nice. go check out her shop and her blog. She’s got a little family of blondies that are so stinkin’ cute.

Next up is Caitlyn. She liked one of the monkey mini wallets so much she was compelled to email me. She then informs me we can trade and she would make me a tote bag. (She knows the quickest way to my heart)...you’ll have to wait to see how i filled out her package. But here’s the lovely stuff she made for me. i LOVE it!

she just opened studio cate you must check it out.
thank you wendy and caitlyn! Also a thank you to erin who made me an apron from aunt ida’s dish towels. I need to show you that. very soon indeed!

last i’ll leave you some of what i sewed up today more mini wallets. I made 12 today from start to finish. *whew*

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIMMY!

Comments (6)

oh yes. Last year i was an awful friend and forgot his birthday by a day or so. Not this year. I have known Jimmy for over 20 years. He is pretty much my official-unoffical-brother of sorts. He is top notch grade A number one friend. And to you jimmy, i wish you a happy birthday and may you eat loads of cake or strawberries! (and yes ladies this guy is indeed single. he can resurrect computers, teach you programming code in a not sort geeky-sort-of-way, show you cool japanese collectable toys, and spin a mighty record!)

And i have a rare picture of him smiling. (nice smile!)

what i did this weekend by jennifer

Comments (6)

let’s pretend we’re back in grade school and giving a show and tell of the weeekend like you did in grade 3. remember those days? here’s the weekend in review.
first up i am very proud of the fact that i went to learn how to use my spindle at sheep’s spinning workshop on saturday.

also weeks ago i special ordered on rebecca’s tip this pendant from Lusterbunny. It is handmade porcelain. And worth every penny. Rain is an awesome seller and she will email you about anything. She is very friendly and personable even in email. She is TOP NOTCH. She will also make any design for you in any color combo you see. It takes loner to get the special order’s but it is well worth the wait. i suggest you check out Rain’s site and support handmade!

after the workshop i was driving to chicago to attend with nathaniel in the park across from his apt Folk & Roots Festival. This is his neighboorhood festival put on by the Old town school of folk in his community. They do an awesome job every year. This year we spent day one on a blankie and bought fancy folding chairs for day two. some highlights:
the youth fiddle winner playing with his dad on banjo (these are kids or people from the comunnity competeing for 1000!)

the lead singer from the james hand band who were TOTALLY COUNTRIFIED YEEEHAW check out that fringe!

you could try to win a 2500$ martin guitar from these fancy looking girls roaming the park

here i am embroidering and enjoying a beer while nat was sleeping during robbie’s secret country band

my favorite bluegrass act Tangleweed

nat liked steve dawson’s guitar

and my favorite act was sunday in the world music category. Kekele is so much fun. I can’t even describe how much fun they are. They are describe as Congo Rhumba. The three men danced too. At one point during their encore they had literally every person in the park on their feet...even NAT. They were trying to teach everyone a dance sequence.

and my second favorite act of the two days was the sunday nite closer. They brought the park down. The 911 mambo orchestra. There were 21 people on stage! They had people salsa and mambo dancing all fancy like in the park.

we spent too much time sitting around in the sun. i actually got somewhat of a tan, and nat. well nat bursts into flame 10 minutes in the sun. He even with spf 30 got sunburned. poor thing. well that’s my weekend in review, all grade school style like in grade 3. at least our 3rd graders don’t use power point yet for those types of oral reports.

more stuff and things

Comments (4)

things to do this weekend:
1. go to european market...find out how to sell at said market
2. go to spinning workshop with erin...learn how to use spindle that is collecting dust
3. folk & roots festival is across the street from Nat. Best neighboorhood festival hands down.
4. i can craft anywhere as you saw in the previous post. I plan to hopefully be embroidering at folk and roots while i’m sitting around.

We got accepted for Renegade Chicago! We are sharing a booth. So look for the crafty ladies stuff and you will find my sister and i. Also make sure you look for Stevie of Trudesign, she will be there. Hopefully i can go visit her and bask in some of her cool factor.

Stuff:
I want to thank Erin for making my sister and i CHICKEN pin cushions!

I got stamps made with Nat from our logos they are fun to mix and match

Kristen gave me this beautiful pin for a headband or two

and here’s what the mini wallets are all about. I suppose you could put an ipod nano in there. But really it’s just something i saw last year at Renegade, made in cuter fabric. And i haven’t added the closure yet. It’s about 4 inches by 3 inches when folded shut.
