Some Truth about rectangles
♥ Comments (5) ♥
Another sneek peek at our big collaboration project. This is actually a collaboration between two etsy people and erin of my dorky best friend, and of course my sister and i. Wanna see more?
how about a little closer?
it’s still coming! i’m just waiting on the package from Meg and I will begin to assemble them and photograph them!
My weekend was great. I saw Hott Fuzz and laughed so hard i cried 4 times. Zander, Wendy, and Adam came up for a visit on Sunday. They had to attend to some interview for adam. So Zander, uncle nat and auntie jennifer all went out for sunday brunch, stopped by Wrigley field, and then played baseball in the park across from nat all day. It was so nice.
Now for a small announcement:
Ok, for those of you who have been wanting sock needle DPN holders. I’m listing them in Etsy later today.
If you want one you should pick one up. Why? Because i won’t be making them anymore.
You see I don’t like making them. Sewing a perfect rectangle that matches up exactly is not very easy nor is it quick. There’s a lot of effort and seam ripping involved. Now there’s seam ripping and loads of time consumed in our other things...but they i can say are fun. And quite frankly they aren’t worth the $5 i make off of each. I don’t like sewing things that aren’t fun. So no more. So if you want one please look at the picture closely. what you see in the picture is what you get. And i will be happy because i won’t be fussing over these things anymore.
I also have a few more on my table to finish up, there’s about 4 more coming and then thank god., no more.
ok. i have more than 4 on my table. I’ve got another stack. Still they will go up this week. You can contact me via email and discuss one being made for you if you really rally want one later on. I won’t stop doing custom orders. I’m just not tacking a mass load of these for a listing again, ever. Not fun. Not even poke a stick in yer eye fun.
thanks for letting me vent.

POODLE SCAMs and Black and White Bassetts
♥ Comments (6) ♥
This is too good to be true. Apparently people in japan have no idea what sheep look like.
read it. you will laugh. trust me.
For any of you stalking the store/etsy site for DPN Wallets. I’m taking a stack of cut fabric to the city with me. I will list them as i knock them off this weekend. So be on the look out.
Here is what the Kodak Duaflex looks like. You can score these for under 12$ on ebay.
and here’s the contraption nat built for my digital camera to rest on it to shoot thru the viewfinder
and you should have known it wouldn’t take long for hounds to appear all TTV stylie. Samuel was busy tracking a bunny under the shed. so i don’t have anything of her. But Lucy dog. She liked hanging out in the front yard with me earlier today. So here’s some bassett shots. I also made them black and white as an experiment to see the frames in black white and grey tones.
have a good weekend!

Stuff and things
♥ Comments (7) ♥
Stuff:
I want to say a big thankyou out there to Oiyi, over at Oiyi’s Craft’s!!! Not only does she make beautiful jewelry that i hope one day to be able to afford. But she has been a cool person on my blog list for the past year and a 1/2 or so. She has super cute doggies and a husband who makes cool comic collages. You really should check him out here. She sent me this little package of hello back when i was having a tuff week.
Good thing she sent that soap holder...cause next up i want to thank Nell. Nell’s blog i always find fun, because I can window shop for beautiful sock yarns thru her blog. You see when you are a poor freelancer like me, you can live vicariously thru other’s people’s purchases! She also makes soaps! She kindly asked me if i’d be intrested in testing her soap out and giving her my opinion on them. Sure enough i got this lovely smelling Lemon Verbena Soap in the mail.
She said it was more of a kitchen soap, but sure enough after a week i started to use it int he shower/bath. I like the grainy stuff in it to scrub me up. In addition to it smelling good, there’s decent lather and leaves me clean and not feeling dry like some other soaps do. So if she ever sells this stuff, i plan on buying some up. And so should you. Thank You Nell for considering me and my opinion.
I also won a contest of hers. Which was super fun cause I never win anything, so this was extra fun. I let her choose which prize to send me.
here it is and it’s a beauty!
It’s Lisa Souza sock yarn in Emerald. How pretty is that!! Thanks Nell (again)
Things:
I want to thank Nat for getting me a present too. A Duaflex of my very own. So now i can do the Through The Viewfinder pictures all on my own. He also built me the wacky cardboard contraption to put over the camera to allow my digital to shoot thru the viewfinder. He’s such a great boy, who can wield a craft knife and mold cardboard into awesome stuff. Thanks nat.
So in the last post you saw one of nat’s two duaflex’s. That last one is with the gritty lens. This is what my viewfinder looks like!
Since everyone doesn’t mind seeing my shoes here’s the new pair of rocket dogs i scored on the super cheap!
Here’s some yarn i had borrowed erin’s swift to wind this weekend
Collaboration Pouches Galore (a.k.a the sewing apocolapyse)
handles
the motel they deomolitioned for more condos
the patio
handcut type on an abandoned building
I’ll get some photos of my duaflex box camera so you can see what it looks like with the contraption tomorrow. I’ve got some custom orders to work on for our etsy shop peeps
But i will leave you with a picture nat took of himself with the gritty duaflex. He hates it and yelled at me when i said i wanted it. “You’re just going to put it on your blooooooog!” Yes i am. Cause you are the cutest boy ever. Who will go take pictures of typography with me, take 800 billion annoying pictures of me, watch me argue for cheaper shoes, watch me sew, and tolerates that i love his eyebrows so much i kiss them and pet them.
Edited to add information about Through The Viewfinder:
Through the Viewfinder photography is defined as taking a picture of any subject through the viewfinder of any camera with another camera.
You can find out how to do it, and page 3 has make your own contraption here
You can view flickr groups (nat belongs to them) here
Also the blog is no longer updated but it is here

A walk on a Sunday
♥ Comments (9) ♥
I really love Nathaniel. I also love that he’s the type of person, so when i say hey nat we should go for walk down Lincoln with our cameras and shoot some of that great typography! He says ok and he grabs more camera equipment than i do. I have some pictures to get up and some thank you’s to give tomorrow to various bloggers out there. But to hold you off til tomorrow here’s some shots nathaniel took with his Duaflex Camera Through the Viewfinder style, of one of our walks on Sunday. Beware there’s a lot of photos of me for some unknown reason.
First i did so much sewing i think i can sew and serge in my sleep. Here’s a sneek peek at all i did this weekend. And yes some of our collaboration with another etsy seller is in the shot.
We saw this dog outside of Costello’s
Me on a walk saturday nite we took i just like how i am laughing at nat
Nat likes to try to shoot pigeons with the Duaflex
Outside on Montrose and Lincoln

me walking (my tongue has been pierced for 13 years
no stop taking pictures of me!

When it rains it pours
♥ Comments (6) ♥
Things keep breaking around here...the serger...the car....the washer....the furnace...then my mac which was a hand-me down from Nat dies a sad sad death, what next? Oh yes now the monitor to my PC bit the dust. ok already! I do hope you had a nice easter. We had a good time watching several hours worth of PLANET EARTH on the High Definition Discovery channel. My dad’s 60” high def tv makes a world of difference. Even Nat who only likes to watch learning television enjoyed it.
SO I have nothing. My green cable twist sock has been undone. I didn’t like the fabric on my 2’s which are 2.75mm. The 1’s at 2.25mm are a smidge too tight to get on my foot. So i ordered some 2.5mm 1’s from knitpicks. I’m hoping that will be my answer.
I was contacted out of the blue a week or so ago by Max. Who asked if he could use a personal photo i had of Jim, from the zincs. Yes Jim is quite the dreamy boy who i was stalking, oh i mean creatively following at folk and roots 2 years ago. He emailed me to tell me it’s up. So check out my first ever photo credit. WOO WOO!

3 random comment photo meme
♥ Comments (11) ♥
Okay, sorry that took so long folks. I had a bunch of them shot and then Nat goes and DELETES them. So i had to wait until i saw Zander again. Now i present to you jen’s great photo meme....
Erin’s Photos
hound action shot: Samuel in her tutu rolling over for food
Favorite non-shop sewing project: MY VERY OWN dpn wallet with fabric that has Lucy dogs on it
favorite object handmade by you: my 3-d class final project. Had to be of any material we used all semester long. It was to be a vestibule for something that was very sentimental to us. Had to be a vessel to hold this treasure in. I approached my professor while everyone else was still thinking and asked to go buy some raw oak. I told him i needed to make a hinged “k”. It would hold my grandma K’s diamond earrings. We were extremely close to her, my dad’s biological mother. She died young. Anyways this thing started out as beautiful piece of oak my professor GAVE me. He told me he liked my idea so much he had special wood to donate to me ( we were supposed to buy it from the college wood scrap) i cut it and fused it and hinged it and sanded and sanded and sanded then varnished. it’s a work of art. best of all when i presented, my prof said what was her first name i said matilda maude apparently when you open it and lay it flat it makes an MK. It was not intended. Needless to say i got an A+. It is my very favorite thing made by me with a lot of love and sawing and sanding.
Photos for kayt
bright copper kettles: you have to settle for a silver kettle that doesn’t whistle (annoying)
warm woolen mittens: my manos mittens
doorbells
Photos for Amy
Little boy eyelashes: modeled by Zander himself, so cute i had to include two photos
Your favorite toy: my bean stuffed cat given to me the day i was born from grandma K, yes i still have it, i refuse to get rid of it. I don’t care if you call it roadkill. I will fight you. You will lose.
Favorite fiber to knit with: because i am poor, merino wool
Photos for Stephanie
Something insideout and upside down: what the hell? the best i could do was shoot myself in reflection, but i am not inside out!
Your Utopia:non-stop reading or being read to
Favorite smell: all three (not at once) of Philosophy’s grace perfumes. My FAV HANDS DOWN IS PURE GRACE. it smells like soap and water...literally.
Photos for Wendy
My favorite Nat picture: well i have a few old ones, but i shot a new one this weekend. I was online and nat was sleeping, his cat missed him all week long.
My favorite craft: knitting clears my mind
My favorite fabric: i just bought enough of this to make a 5 panel skirt!
Photos for LLA who thinks she’s being evil
Picture of yer bellybutton: while i want to vomit even looking at this picture in photoshop here you go
A photoshopped picture of Nat with the Nat Sherman sign: nat NEVER smiles, here it is by popular demand....back in like 2004 we were in new york city the day after xmas. While waiting for a light i told nat to stand under the nat sherman sign. He REFUSED to stand near the sign. SO i took the picture anyways WITHOUT him. He looked at me and said oh no. i said oh yes. He said you aren’t going to PHOTOSHOP me into that are you. Damn straight i was.
A beagle in a tutu. Or you in a tiara. Or you in a tiara, holding a beagle in a tutu. Or you in a tutu, holding a beagle wearing a tiara: ok i don’t own a tiara, nor did i feel like finding one to photoshop onto my head after the whole deleting my photos incident. Altho I’ve always asked for one cause i find that it would be cool to wear it like you for no good real reason (this was before i even knew of you and your tiara story even so great minds must think alike or so randomly alike) So you get me holding a beagle in a tutu TWO pictures (note that is the sewing room at my sister’s it is bright orange and those would be adam’s wrestling action figures not mine y0)
Photos for Lesa
Favorite Birks: my felt clogs
favorite fo: the hermoine hat i made for joy, cause i had never done cables in the round
Favorite ugly sweater: i took this to mean one after my mom burned the O.G. (original gangsta) baby shit yellow mohair thing. It is the first one she got me for xmas to “replace” the ugly sweater. She apparently thought this was ugly. I think she is cuckoo bananas. (yes that is a PEEPS shirt and if you look closely it says gives peeps a chance)
***edited for visual reference*** here is a picture of the O.G. Ugly sweater i wore forever in the 90’s until my mom burned it. The model is an ex-boyfriend. His parents house always had TONS of Rush Limbaugh books in it.
ok. So nothing new. Still working on single green cable twist sock. Have ripped it out 900 times. When i mess up the pattern in more than one section i go cuckoo bananas. If anyone can tell me where the hell i picked up the phrase cuckoo bananas from i will squeal with delight to know i am not the only one obsessed with this show. Kayt or Kristen should know the answer to that question.
I’m probably going to post again after the weekend. So i hope y’all have a happy easter. May your day be filled with chocolate bunnies and dyed eggs.

Prizes
♥ Comments (0) ♥
Here are the two paintings I have purchased from Nat for you to win. They are about the size of a baseball card. They are painted on pages of recycled book. All paintings done by Nathaniel.
To be entered in the drawings for both all you have to do is donate $1 or more to Devon and her Senior hound sanctuary dream. You can give thru her page OR you can send the BaRNI (bassett rescue network inc) email address in paypal a donation you must mark it for devon’s dream.. If you do donate please send me an email and let me know to put you in the drawing for these two paintings. I think we’ll sew up a few little coin purses too out of some bassett hound with hearts on their noses fabric I found last weekend as well. Good karma for you and good karma for the hounds.

to hold you over
♥ Comments (4) ♥
If any of you are hound lovers or dog nerrrrrds in gerneral (like me) then you may want to check out Devan’s dream page. She lost the ABC voting show where you vote for someone’s dream. She wanted to build a SENIOR BASSETT HOUND SANCTUARY. SHe lost to a guy who wanted hair. Yes HAIR people. Anyways you can donate via this page. And you can PAYPAL to the BARNI email address any amount. If you do donate let me know and i will put your name into a drawing for one of nat’s little paintings one of a sheep and one of a kitty. I will post the pictures of the little paintings (baseball card sized) on my next post. This is by honor system cause you know that bad karma will come back to bite you in the ass. But do some good for the hounds. My sister and i are making a donation tonight. So if you’ve got 2 or 3$ to spare send it by way to some hounds to be loved forever.
ok i will be posting the answer photos to the 3 things photo meme very soon. I have to sort thru them and make sure i take them all. I am going to do my best to use my own photos for this challenge. So to hold you over i will post a silly picture of Samuel...in a tutu. Proving further that she will do anything for food.
