i showed my mother today
♥ Comments (0) ♥
i showed my mother today all the little rows of practice knitting i had done. i was so proud and was hoping she’d be amazed. you see my mother has done cross-stitching for years and years. she sewed all of mine and my sister’s clothes during the 70’s…and she crochets rather well. she once tried to teach me to crochet when i was like 14 and she made me cry. it was terrible i couldn’t figure anything out and she wasn’t very good at teaching it. i thought learning to knit would be a disaster for myself. considering i don’t learn anything to easily. i have to work at everything i pick up. so i pull out my little swatch and she is amazed. she said she was proud of it. she also said if i continue i can have my grandma K’s knitting needles.
Grandma K was one of my 3 grandmother’s and she was the one we were closest to. She died when i was only 9 years old and i don’t remember her other than in the eyes of a 9 yr old. i knew she used to knit and knit alot..but my mother said she knit and beaded part of my mother’s wedding dress! i didn’t know this either. Grandma K was a seamstress at Jay-mar ruby for 20 years. now this is all making sense to me. anyways i looked at what my mother had kept. there are a bunch of different sized needles including large plastic jumbo needles which i have seen large fiber yarns make some pretty rad scarves, a gauge, several books and a little kit to hold stuff. i’d like to think gramma K would be so proud of me now.
i often daydream about having my own studio. A letterpress and my own company. mmmmmm i like these daydreams. someday i tell myself i wish i could make this happen.

i walked into “knitter’s niche”
♥ Comments (0) ♥
i walked into “knitter’s niche” yesterday after a long and truly terrible day. and within an hour i was learning to knit. it was very strange and yet calming and surreal. i had walked in there thinking wow i want to learn to knit…i walked out with my own needles some grey yarn and a little book. i sat down last nite and i’m proud to say i have messed up my lovley practice rows. and i forgot how to cast on. i am off to a fine mess. it is very calming and fun once i figured out the whole loop in loops thing. and which way the yarn goes, which i still mess up.
like i had said before i am not feeling the best as of late, i am supposedly breaking all these rules at work. which i have been breaking apparently since i’ve started working there almost 3 years ago. and my boss writes me notes that make taking your break sound like you were “caught” doing a criminal act. i’m not kidding. my financial aid with school has managed to mess up my whole semester. i am now no longer a student of Columbia. argh. it’s ok i tell myself i’ll be ok. this is only a set back. i’m sure alot of people have had worse set backs, than me.
i left someone a note today and i told them something important. something that had been on my mind for a few weeks now. it’s important to get that stuff off your chest and make them aware of it. especially when it’s important.

i am sorry if some of you have seen these already but i was just going thru my portfolio and was likeing alot of these. i need to add more photography to my portfolio. remind me to stay away from BUFFET’S..tonight nathaniel and i went to one and i still feel full.
i started another sock dog..now come the gifts i have to make for everyone. it’s a blue striped doggie and he’s already shaping up to be a boy dog. he has big feet i folded and stitched the paws and they are big and silly and he’s going to be adorable. my co-worker Tabetha showed me some pointers on handsewing today. she is also making a sock dog tomorrow with me at work. i have found this is a great project to do at work because i can sew between calls easily. ok i work in like 5 hrs time to sleep.
it’s raining outside and i can hear it on the roof, good for sleeping.

meet my new sock doggie…i finished him tonight. i think it took like 3 hours all together. included with the fact that i don’t know how to sew and martha’s directions are a bunch of crap. you learn as you go along. and my sister taught me how to make the tail and sew it on. this dog needs a name tho.

a long time ago it
♥ Comments (0) ♥
a long time ago it seems, i had a day off and was watching Martha Stewert. She had on a segment where she made sock dogs. These things were so effing cute i raced out to the store to buy the children’s issue with the instructions. Then christmas happened, and then because my school is private and retarded we had finals starting the end of december and had to finish on my birthday in january. Art school, finals are twice as hard because not only do you have an exam in some classes but you have a final project so it’s like double the work. so now i am fianlly on semester break and have the time to do a sock dog. i am in the middle of a crafting frenzy right now since i’ve had two days off work in a row.
about 3 weeks ago i started to see sock dogs appear everywhere on crafting sites. they are so adorable and such. Now that they are taking over the planet i am starting my first dog. it’s 2:30 and his legs have been sewn up!
i’ll post him when i am finished.
projects:
round picture marble magnets
valentine cards
tins for the magnets
sock dogs
mix cd’s

here’s a painting i got
♥ Comments (0) ♥
here’s a painting i got from Nathaniel for my birthday:

i don’t want to work today but i want money so go figure.
i hate how my car alaways descides to do something when i am IN TRANSIT rather than at home.
stupid muffler descides to fall off when i am on Montrose ave in chicago.
problem is that it was haninging on with one bolt that wouldn’t come off…so we had to play MCGUEYVER to get it to not drag all the way back to NW indiana.
i am happy because last nite Nathaniel told me he would craft with me, i won’t trade him for anyone….not ever.
