one of my most favorite

one of my most favorite childhood memories of chicago, is going to State street every decemnber and looking at the Marshall Field’s windows.
Then going to the Carson’s building, Daily plaza, and all the lights along Michigan Ave and WaterTower Place. We used to go every year from
the time i was 5 yrs old. The only time i didn’t do this was when i lived in Bloomington, Indiana for 7 years. We used to eat under the giant xmas
tree on the 7th floor of Field’s and get a dated mug. I used to ignore the cold and wind just to hear the music Field’s plays with their windows that
line State st/washington st/and Randolph st. Everytime i go and look at them i feel like i am 6 years old again. Last year i missed my 8:17pm train
due to the photogra[hy print dryer being ULTRA slow. And i was stuck downtown til 10:17pm on a warm week in mid-December. i walked down and
stood on state street with a crowd of 30 or so people enjoying the windows. That year the theme was the 12 days of xmas. The year before it was
Harry potter’s xmas, and prior to that it was Dr. Suess. Carson’s have gingerbread men on ferris wheels and various carnival rides that are animated.
Watching children enjoy the windows always puts me in a good mood. I am going to go to Field’s next thursday and enjoy the windows. I also want
to go home via Michigan Ave to enjoy all the beautiful lights.

My mother has gotten her patheology report back this week and everything is a-ok. She had a tumor out the day after thanksgiving, actually they
took out her whole thyriod. She has to take medication for the rest of her life now, but she won’t have another tumor problem in a few years. I am in
the middle of BOOK MAKING HELL (tm). let’s just say i want it all to end and end quickly and painlessly. This week i only got 2 headaches from
teaching IMPOSITION to several students. For those of you out there wondering what imposition is, that would be setting up pages for the printing
of a book. You have to imposition your pages correctly for printing so they fold up right. For some UNKNOWN reason this is something that students
are finding to be rather difficult. I work in the Design Lab at school and the lab-aids just send students who are doiong books to me, with a remark like
“oh just go to Jen..she’s the one who is the best at that.”........lovely.  I get these kids who are like a tangled up pile of christmas lights, they are confused
they are upset, they are asking a billion questions that pertain to steps that are way way down the road. I have to find the end of the string of lights and
untangle them til they eventually “get it”. Someone was so upset the other day she was crying. I felt so bad for her, because she knew this was an easy
concept, she was just confused and then more confused and when i got to her she was upset and crying. i kept telling her that she was making this
hard on herself and we went thru the steps and she eventually understood, she stopped crying and was excited she understood how to put it all
together. I finally approached the prof who teaches this class and told him i should teach imposition as a tutor...he said i should be a T.A. for the class.
This is something i shall consider for next semester.
