I need your help

Comments (7)

I’d like to say thanks for the input on the logo. I like it very much, and can’t wait to start incorporating it. Most of the stuff is back in the shop. I’m photographing some whales and pigs today (some of the newer pouches)

I ask for some help. you see. We are going to do Renegade Chicago this September. Nathaniel keeps telling me Moustache Factory won’t make back the table fee for the weekend. The table fee will be broken down by at least 6or 7 people. It will be some where around 40$. He for some reason doesn’t think he will even make 40$. I think he needs some help convincing him to join up. He doesn’t seem to believe me. What do you guys think? Should he join us for renegade chicago? please tell nat reason’s why he should or shouldn’t do this. I will make him read all your comments.

Do it just for the fun of doing it! $40 isn’t that much, and even if you don’t get the money back, you get the word out and a lot of publicity. However, I think there would be no problem at all getting that much or even more in sales. :)

Ok...I’ve done some research on this and this is what I’ve come up with:(pushes glasses up and peers up at you while wrapping other arm around clipboard...so scientific looking...don’t you think?)
A.Buttons on clothes were originally decoration and wearable art. And therefore, must be once more. All sewers(is this even a word?) out there must do away with the button hole band (maybe knitters too) so one can wear Nat’s buttons on their shirts so art can come into our daily lives once more. Can’t do this if you don’t take your stuff to be seen.
B. The book, Uniforms: Why We Are What We Wear by Paul Fussell who “explores the symbolism of every aspect of uniforms-fabrics, buttons, badges, bows. Readers will learn, for instance, that Italian troops in WWII were considered “dandies and losers” by the Allies, mostly because they wore headgear accessorized with such vain flourishes as feathers and horsehair tails.” How can Nat get his buttons on uniforms (and then into books like these) if he doesn’t get his stuff out there?
C.Buttons can raise awareness...of your talent
D.Someday your button will be vintage, but not if no one knows you.
E.All the cool kids are doing it...probably.
F. Here’s the biggest reason of all...Jennifer wants you to.
G.it’s only $40.
H.You only live this life the once.
I.You can’t succeed if you don’t try.
I’m sure I could come up with more but I have to go return my lab coat.

Well, I’m pro-Nat at Renegade.  Nat, you would without question make your money back.  I’m a big time button buyer at the Renegade NY, and I even looked to see if you had send some stuff with Jen’s (will have to order Mr. Earl this week).  With a good display, I think you would be able to make back the $40 in one day.  On average, I usually bought 5 1 inch buttons for $5 at each place I stopped.

And you could always decide to sell a few more things besides the buttons.  Maybe some cards or a few small paintings.

So there’s my 2 cents.  Jen, Dave and I had such fun at Renegade Brooklyn we’re considering a road trip to the Chicago Renegade.  :) I’ll drop you an email too about Renegade NY.  Take care!

You should give it a try Nat, but first, get some marketing out there so that people will know to come and look for you.  Submit to The Sampler?  I don’t know what else.

Go on! Don’t be soft. Take a risk!

(this is what a girl, complete stranger mind you, told us while we were chickening out of a scary ride at an amusement park on Saturday. It seemed to work, at least 70% of the chicken’s went on the ride. That phrase proved very effective on the lads. Thought it might have the same effect here)
