i showed my mother today

i showed my mother today all the little rows of practice knitting i had done. i was so proud and was hoping she’d be amazed. you see my mother has done cross-stitching for years and years. she sewed all of mine and my sister’s clothes during the 70’s...and she crochets rather well. she once tried to teach me to crochet when i was like 14 and she made me cry. it was terrible i couldn’t figure anything out and she wasn’t very good at teaching it. i thought learning to knit would be a disaster for myself. considering i don’t learn anything to easily. i have to work at everything i pick up. so i pull out my little swatch and she is amazed. she said she was proud of it. she also said if i continue i can have my grandma K’s knitting needles.
Grandma K was one of my 3 grandmother’s and she was the one we were closest to. She died when i was only 9 years old and i don’t remember her other than in the eyes of a 9 yr old. i knew she used to knit and knit alot..but my mother said she knit and beaded part of my mother’s wedding dress! i didn’t know this either. Grandma K was a seamstress at Jay-mar ruby for 20 years. now this is all making sense to me. anyways i looked at what my mother had kept. there are a bunch of different sized needles including large plastic jumbo needles which i have seen large fiber yarns make some pretty rad scarves, a gauge, several books and a little kit to hold stuff. i’d like to think gramma K would be so proud of me now.
i often daydream about having my own studio. A letterpress and my own company. mmmmmm i like these daydreams. someday i tell myself i wish i could make this happen.
