what i did this weekend by jennifer

let’s pretend we’re back in grade school and giving a show and tell of the weeekend like you did in grade 3. remember those days? here’s the weekend in review.
first up i am very proud of the fact that i went to learn how to use my spindle at sheep’s spinning workshop on saturday.
also weeks ago i special ordered on rebecca’s tip this pendant from Lusterbunny. It is handmade porcelain. And worth every penny. Rain is an awesome seller and she will email you about anything. She is very friendly and personable even in email. She is TOP NOTCH. She will also make any design for you in any color combo you see. It takes loner to get the special order’s but it is well worth the wait. i suggest you check out Rain’s site and support handmade!
after the workshop i was driving to chicago to attend with nathaniel in the park across from his apt Folk & Roots Festival. This is his neighboorhood festival put on by the Old town school of folk in his community. They do an awesome job every year. This year we spent day one on a blankie and bought fancy folding chairs for day two. some highlights:
the youth fiddle winner playing with his dad on banjo (these are kids or people from the comunnity competeing for 1000!)
the lead singer from the james hand band who were TOTALLY COUNTRIFIED YEEEHAW check out that fringe!
you could try to win a 2500$ martin guitar from these fancy looking girls roaming the park
here i am embroidering and enjoying a beer while nat was sleeping during robbie’s secret country band
my favorite bluegrass act Tangleweed
nat liked steve dawson’s guitar
and my favorite act was sunday in the world music category. Kekele is so much fun. I can’t even describe how much fun they are. They are describe as Congo Rhumba. The three men danced too. At one point during their encore they had literally every person in the park on their feet...even NAT. They were trying to teach everyone a dance sequence.
and my second favorite act of the two days was the sunday nite closer. They brought the park down. The 911 mambo orchestra. There were 21 people on stage! They had people salsa and mambo dancing all fancy like in the park.
we spent too much time sitting around in the sun. i actually got somewhat of a tan, and nat. well nat bursts into flame 10 minutes in the sun. He even with spf 30 got sunburned. poor thing. well that’s my weekend in review, all grade school style like in grade 3. at least our 3rd graders don’t use power point yet for those types of oral reports.

Ouch...poor thing. Looks like you had fun though.
My Hubby burns too (which he passed on to most of the kids too). I haven’t tried it see if he can get moon burn but I know that sun screen doesn’t work (no matter the spf...I also read it causes cancer just as much as the sun can. They’re starting to recommend putting it on your clothes...really werid I think since that is not where you usually get burnt). We’ve found that drinking a whole lot(really a whole lot) of water, huge brimmed hats, long sleeves (silk is good fabric), and long pant legs work better. I read on Crazy Aunt Purls’ webstite that Europeans have better sun screen. Anyway, I hope this helps you out. After all I don’t think you can get better advice than from a family of blondes.lol.

Hi Jen,I love yer site...and the blog is the only way we can keep up with Nat’s life.
You seem to enjoy the fest in Chicago, would you,or could you and Nat come East to NJ for the Sept.30th FarmAid festival.I’d buy your plane tix, plus the concert tix...and of course you know you could sleep over at our house.
Let me know if you two could do this?
Love Jim

Looks like you had fun. I never did make it to the spinning. By the time I finished all my running around, I was pooped and wanted to just sit around the house.
