okay now i can’t stop
♥ Comments (1) ♥
okay now i can’t stop buying little extra gifts for everyone!! this sucks..i went out today for lunch with a friend and afterwards i manage to find about 6 more little trinkets and baubles for people...arg.
i have the burl ives song “have a holly jolly xmas” stuck in my head..it’s either that or the winter wonderland song.
i was laughing because someone said they wrote a song about their favorite typeface..this person is a type nerd after my own heart! and puns about how their x-height turns them on is just FANTASTIC.
i should be going downstairs to meet with Kevin Cassidy about my final project for Photo Communications. i want to use some overt sept 11th imagery and george w imagery in my visual representation of Walter Benjamin’s essay “art in the age of mechanical reproduction” i have the epilogue which is all about: war as spectacle and how the masses are just watching what gobvernment wants you to watch..basically spectacle.
i must go to the 8th floor now.
caio.

♥ Comments (0) ♥
i’m finished with my xmas shopping (almost) are you? actually i still have ONE MORE gift to get. actually i have a small pile of gifts for joy, but i still have yet to get her a nice main gift-gift...and i run into a slight problem..her birthday is 4 days before mine...and i don’t have a b-day gift for her yet either...arg.
speaking of that i have about a month left of being 29 years old. i will turn 30 on january 16th. at least this year i won’t have a final from classes on my birthday. usually every year for the past 3 years i’ve had some sort of final exam or final critique on my b-day. 30 i think isn’t going to be so bad..it just SOUNDS like alot hen you say it. i don’t know..!!!

today there was a note
♥ Comments (0) ♥
today there was a note up at work...my boss was ACTUALLY complaining that plastic spoons were getting expensive...and not to use them as much as possible. ummm this would make sense if she didn’t buy them at sam’s club where it costs her FIVE DOLLARS for 300 spoons...how ridiculous can you possibly get?? oh wait i forgot this past summer she threatenend not to get more water for the water cooler because people were drinking MORE water than usual over the month...so we drank 5 of those giant gallons on the water cooler than 4 as per usual.
can’t you seem to find something better to waste your time complaining about??? it seems everywhere i go everyone is complaining...school, work, home, out shopping, in the streets..it never seems to go away, the other day i finally felt like iw as in the christmas spirit and it has all been sucked away...my parents are whining about me oweing them 183$ still and if i don’t pay then i get nothing for christmas...so it looks like i am getting nothing fromt hem this year...and i feel like putting in as much effort on their shopping...bah.
tonight i had a call at work from a lady who lives in one of the gary apartment complexes we page maintence for...apparently the maint. man had called in to let us know that cokplex 3456 was going to be without water for 3 hours while he took care of a backing up sewer...30 min’s go by and i get a call from some woman who thinks the universe revoles around her...she literally wanted him to turn the water BACK on so she could finish her dishes, SO HER BABIES WOULD HAVE CLEAN DISHES....ummm ooooookay...she was swearing up and down at me and demanding a supervisor..i told her i’d page a manager for her and when the manager called back and tired to call her she wouldn’t even bother to answer her phone. people are so lame, and waste everyone’s time.
i’m spent.

today i got an email
♥ Comments (0) ♥
today i got an email from a very close friend of many years, who lives in Indianapolis. She used to work with me when i lived in Bloomington, IN. Her name is Kelly and she is simply the best. You know how you can be having the crappiset day EVER? and just someone’s laugh or smile can bring it all back home for you? this would be Kel. She is also responsible for calling me jenjen over the years...and how i miss it.
work, homework, school. rinse and repeat. i feel like i am in a perpetual spin that will never stop. altho i do have to find time to get over to the ART INSTITUE of CHICAGO...they are having a renaissance exhibit with some Michelangelo sculptures that have never left italy...!!!
i think i am finally sleeping better. i managed to not wake up once last nite. and i finally feel alot better today...this is the first time i have felt like that in about 5 weeks.

one of my most favorite
♥ Comments (0) ♥
one of my most favorite childhood memories of chicago, is going to State street every decemnber and looking at the Marshall Field’s windows.
Then going to the Carson’s building, Daily plaza, and all the lights along Michigan Ave and WaterTower Place. We used to go every year from
the time i was 5 yrs old. The only time i didn’t do this was when i lived in Bloomington, Indiana for 7 years. We used to eat under the giant xmas
tree on the 7th floor of Field’s and get a dated mug. I used to ignore the cold and wind just to hear the music Field’s plays with their windows that
line State st/washington st/and Randolph st. Everytime i go and look at them i feel like i am 6 years old again. Last year i missed my 8:17pm train
due to the photogra[hy print dryer being ULTRA slow. And i was stuck downtown til 10:17pm on a warm week in mid-December. i walked down and
stood on state street with a crowd of 30 or so people enjoying the windows. That year the theme was the 12 days of xmas. The year before it was
Harry potter’s xmas, and prior to that it was Dr. Suess. Carson’s have gingerbread men on ferris wheels and various carnival rides that are animated.
Watching children enjoy the windows always puts me in a good mood. I am going to go to Field’s next thursday and enjoy the windows. I also want
to go home via Michigan Ave to enjoy all the beautiful lights.
My mother has gotten her patheology report back this week and everything is a-ok. She had a tumor out the day after thanksgiving, actually they
took out her whole thyriod. She has to take medication for the rest of her life now, but she won’t have another tumor problem in a few years. I am in
the middle of BOOK MAKING HELL (tm). let’s just say i want it all to end and end quickly and painlessly. This week i only got 2 headaches from
teaching IMPOSITION to several students. For those of you out there wondering what imposition is, that would be setting up pages for the printing
of a book. You have to imposition your pages correctly for printing so they fold up right. For some UNKNOWN reason this is something that students
are finding to be rather difficult. I work in the Design Lab at school and the lab-aids just send students who are doiong books to me, with a remark like
“oh just go to Jen..she’s the one who is the best at that.”........lovely. I get these kids who are like a tangled up pile of christmas lights, they are confused
they are upset, they are asking a billion questions that pertain to steps that are way way down the road. I have to find the end of the string of lights and
untangle them til they eventually “get it”. Someone was so upset the other day she was crying. I felt so bad for her, because she knew this was an easy
concept, she was just confused and then more confused and when i got to her she was upset and crying. i kept telling her that she was making this
hard on herself and we went thru the steps and she eventually understood, she stopped crying and was excited she understood how to put it all
together. I finally approached the prof who teaches this class and told him i should teach imposition as a tutor...he said i should be a T.A. for the class.
This is something i shall consider for next semester.
