off and running

today is thursday the “official/unofficial start of this KAL and i’m already to the working even part! pictures later today to follow. I’m glad several of you also wrestled with the cast on for about 10 times before it clicked too. *whew* i’m not alone in my fublelyness! how is everyone else doing? lollygaggers are OKAY too.

Alternative Cast-Ons

erin has supplied me with this to post. There are alternative cast-ons, here
covered are:
short row
figure 8
easy toe up cast on

I’m back to square one, because somewhere i picked it up and zander was climbing on me and i twisted the direction i was going in somehow, don’t ask me how. And i had to unravel. I’m starting over as soon as i add the rest of our pictures/descriptions to the store.

GOT IT!

for those of you who are like me and are S L O W with new things like this turkish cast on....i finally got it. here’s what i can add to kat’s instructions…
after you slide the circular all the way to the right then turn it after you turn it and are ready to knit the live8 stitches..undo your SLIP KNOT off the dpn and undo it
then knit the 8. place your marker and join.
also for some reason when i got to the pattern i got messed up with the next to last stitch being a MAKE ONE then knitting the last stitch.

also if you get holes when you M1..when you lift your bar from between the stitches up and place it on the needle...it should LOOK LIKE A STITCH..if it lays the other way and you knit into the back you’ll get a hole. a friend taught me that trick and it’s always worked for me. cause when you put it up on your left needle you’re twisting it to cover the hole. if you don’t twist it you’ll see the hole.
so remember when you lift it up it should LAY ON THE LEFT NEEDLE LIKE A REAL STITCH (and look like all your other stitches) then knit into the back of it.

ok i have not gotten the first 4 rows done! yay. ok so if you get all fumbled up with this cast on just do it 100 times like me and eventually it will work. i promise. :D
i was so excited i got this that i posted it in my links section and was like umm where did my post go? haha

fumbly mess

ok my trying to cast on last nite never REALLY happened why? because i had a hard time with the turkish cast on. i can get to where i have to knit the 8 live stitches ok, but then it’s a fumbly mess starting from there and once i get it on all 3 dpn’s and mark the start it seems all twisted and weird and i lost my place and stuff. BUT i think this will be ok once i DO IT AGAIN. Actually i had to do this about 6 times and then i STILL have to do it more. it seems very easy it’s just not clicking with me yet. I think our beginner’s are going to be confused once they have to start with the DPN’s. BUT i could be very wrong. Ok so don’t feel bad if you can’t do the cast on. i couldn’t do it...i couldn’t do it 6 times. so i’m going to keep doing it and i know probably within the next few times it will just work out. it’s always like that with stuff i don’t get. *whew* back i go to trying this wacky cast on!

UPDATE***
ok i think all my grief is coming from NOT TAKING THE LIP KNOT OFF sheesh
i was just reading from erin’s pattern and not the tutorial. stupid slip knot!

off and running

ok some of you are already off and running....Don’t worry tho if you aren’t off and running like me. some of have to be lollygaggers! i’m still trying to de-stress from the weekend...and my sister has me in a fury of pouch making as well.

first up we have Allison who has one already done sans strap! check out her progress.
Also Kat has started up and she has offered up these words of advice:

1. Hold the circular needle on the bottom and the
bamboo needle on top to cast on.

2. K4 sts on one dpn, and k4 sts on a second dpn (FROM
BAMBOO NEEDLE) I’m not sure if you need the
specification, but it might make it a bit easier to
understand.

3. Using the “live” stitches created by YOUR
provisional cast on, (SLIDE THE CIRCULAR NEEDLE SO IT
HANGS TO THE RIGHT SIDE AND TURN) K remaining 8 sts on
a third DPN.

4. Next round: *k1, m1, k6, m1, k1*
I found that this dosen’t work out too well the way I
m1. I ended up with holes in my toe! Instead of m1 i
did an inc1, knitting into the front and back of the
2nd stitch in, and 2nd to last stitch.

Also Erin is offering FULL ONLINE PATTERN SUPPORT! so those of you who are beginning knitters are lucky we have her ON this very knit along as well. If you need any help from her just email her and she will get cracking to help you. she is very accomodating. she taught me to crochet in the round and it takes alot of patience to teach me anything.

tonight i will takes pictures of my yarn choices and see if i can finally cast on. tonight is gilmore girls, commander in chief and nip tuck so tonight like tomorrow nite (top model, veronica mars and invasion) are my total sit on the couch nites. i’ll what i can do.
